So the Jacksonville cheerleading season is done, and now the off season begins. While cheerleading doesn’t really have much of an off season, there is a period of time where you don’t really have any cheer stuff lined up, unless you’ve signed up for cheer camp.
However, let’s face it, cheerleading is a year round sport. So if you haven’t signed up for cheer camp, you’re probably trying to figure out what to do next to prepare for the next season. After all, you want to be on the top of your game.
While you don’t have to maintain a vigorous cheer routine throughout the off season, you might want to keep up with a healthy workout to keep yourself conditioned for the season. Here are some ways that you can make the most out of the cheer off season.
Maintain a good fitness routine
As mentioned before, if you’re looking to get back in the cheerleading game when the new season rolls around, it’s important to maintain a workout routine to keep you in good shape for the new season. It’s easy for muscles to get used to the lack of activity.
It’s also fairly common for athletes to injure themselves performing stunts during the new season when they haven’t been conditioning over the off season. To switch things up, you can get creative with your workouts. You can go swimming, biking, running, and even surfing to give your muscles a workout.
Don’t forget to maintain a good diet over the off season. You have to balance a good workout with a good diet. Make sure that you’re eating plenty of clean food to give your body the fuel that it needs to perform well.
Give yourself a break
Remember that this is the off season, so don’t push yourself so hard, otherwise you’ll miss out on the small stuff. Take the time to spend some quality time with your friends and family. Take the free time as an opportunity to make some new memories with the people you love. Cheerleading is important, but you shouldn’t let it take over your personal life to the point where nothing else matter. Give yourself a break, travel a little, and enjoy your free time.
Take the time to practice a specific skill
There may be areas in your cheerleading repertoire that you feel need some more work, so take the time to build these up during the off season. Sign up for a class or two, or ask a couple of your Jacksonville cheerleading teammates to help you work on these. You can make full use of the off season to perfect a skill that you didn’t have much time for during the season.
