One of the most important attitudes of being a Jacksonville cheerleading team member is the school spirit. As a cheerleader, you need to be able to inspire your squad and the whole school. Remember that a cheerleader has to rally the student body behind the school’s teams. If you won’t be able to do that, then you aren’t right for this sports.
Talk to experts
One of the things you need to do first once you joined the team is to talk to past and present cheerleaders. You want to get a feel of how the team lifts the school spirit of the student body. Ask them for some pointers and how they think you should improve everything–from the routines to the cheers to the extra-curricular activities.
Radiate a positive energy
Once you’re assured of yourself and confident of your skills, you will realize how much easier it is to have a positive attitude. If you have a positive outlook, this will help you battle through whatever’s going on–the good and the bad–in the team. It’s not always a perfect world, after all, and there will be times that someone in the team is not in the mood or two of them will be in a big fight. Keep your head together and be the positive force that the team needs.
Be friendly not only during tryouts and competitions when you need the support of your school. Be friendly in the in-betweens, too. When someone needs help, offer to help even if you have nothing to give. It’s always a little more special if the help comes from someone influential in school. And yes, cheerleaders are incredibly influential among their peers. You will certainly boost the school spirit if you are the glue that keeps everything together.
Look like a cheerleader
Wear your school colors as much as you can. When you shop for school clothes, make sure that you have the school colors in mind. When students see you wearing the school colors, they will most likely feel the spirit of winning there, too. This is specifically important when your school is hosting a sporting event and a rival is coming over.
Be active in the community
You have to be a good role model for your Jacksonville cheerleading squad. Make sure that you are actively participating in community events and outreach programs. This will keep you busy during the summer and will enable you to reach out to the community.
