Jacksonville cheerleading is dangerous enough without cheerleaders making it more difficult for themselves. There are more ways than one to put yourself and your teammates in jeopardy. Whether you’re in school, on the road, in a competition, or in a community event, you always have to compose yourself in such a way that you would bring honor to your squad.
A lot can go wrong when you are not careful. It can affect you and your teammates. Here are some of the things you must always look for and check yourself for:
Don’t be controversial
Cheerleaders are always involved in some form of community activity. They attend a lot of community-building activities such as fundraisers, town festivals, or by simply getting people excited about football and basketball. They may even be the face of some campaigns in the community. That’s why it’s important that cheerleaders uphold a good public image and avoid controversy as much as possible. To protect your reputation, as well as that of the team’s, make sure you always maintain yourself in the best way possible.
Don’t be the cause of delay
Cheerleading includes a lot of traveling. That means there will be times when you have to travel with your teammates either through a bus, an airplane, or a train. All of these involved coordination with each other. There is a strict schedule to be followed, so make sure you are not the cause of delay. The last thing you would ever want to do is be the reason why your team was late for a competition, an away game, or any other event. Respect your teammates’ time, and they will respect yours, too.
Don’t lose focus
Whenever you’re on the cheerleading mat, this sports will demand the very best from you. You have to be focused always, and there’s no time for you to dilly-dally on what you need to do. When you’re on the mat, bring your energy to full force. If not, you’re simply sabotaging your team and your chances of winning the competition. Even the most minor and tiniest detail can affect your team and your performance. Don’t ever lose sight on your goal—which is to win.
Don’t engage in fights
There will be times when another team’s cheerleaders will get to your nerves. That’s okay, but don’t let them get into your head. Focus on what’s important. Your eye should always be on the prize. Even when you are provoked, take the high road and remember what you came here for—to represent your Jacksonville cheerleading team to the best of your ability.
